The Red devils are currently on a 24 games winning streak, but this streak is not worth all the hype because 12 of these 24 games have been draws. Mourinho would be utterly frustrated with this. They need to win games in order to qualify for the Champions League and draws won’t help their cause a bit.
So, here are 5 reasons Manchester United are not able to win matches:-
#1 They are not killing games and taking them till the end:-
Manchester United have been playing good football, their unbeaten streak is a testament to that. However, they allow the opposition to come back in games and score the equalizer. They give constant space to opponent players in their half, which cost them the game. They need to kill the games after drawing the first blood. They have been good in scoring the first goal or in some cases equalizer, but haven’t been able to capitalize on that. Taking the game till the end is entertaining for the crowd but is very harmful for them. So harmful, that it is hampering their chances to qualify for the Champions League.
#2 Not giving accurate passes:-
United has some great talent in their squad. Rashford upfront, Herrera in the middle, Valencia on the right plank are playing some excellent football. However, their passing accuracy hasn’t been great. Everyone in the team is giving away balls way too easily, which spoils the whole momentum. Lazy passing is something they need to work on. They have been in getting the ball back, but when they don’t get it often ends at the back of the Red’s net.
#3 Not creating enough chances:-
There have been games where, Manchester United have played extremely dull football. Like the last Manchester derby, which was a goalless draw, was absolutely unattractive. The team like United, which is a naturally attacking team, needs to shed this. Players should be looking to attack the opposition rather than waiting for them to attack. Mourinho must instil the attacking habit in the players so that they can create chances more often. More chances do imply more goals. United must get back the threat they used to possess in the opponent’s box. They must always keep the defence and keeper of the opposite team on their toes.
#4 Not converting the chances into goals:-
United are not creating sufficient chances and the chances that they are creating, end up outside opponent’s goal. With the injury to Zlatan, United does not have a imposing striker up front. Rashford and Martial have looked quick and threatening, but that threat needs to be converted into goals. At the end of the day, it is a result oriented game. They can show as much tricks they want and as much pace they want, but until they don’t score, it is not helping anyone.
#5 Injury worries:-
There’s one table they have definitely topped and that’s injury table. Injury has been a major problem in deteriorating their season. Their injury list is very long, which is now joined by Luke Shaw, who got injured against Swansea. All their good players are injured and their bench strength is coming into test. Smallings, Jones, Zlatan, Pogba are some of the stars that are out injured. Zlatan is their top-scorer, with him being out; the onus now comes on Rashford to score. Mata made his return to the team after an injury in the game against Swansea. This would be a boost to Mourinho, who is struggling to find a proper eleven to play in the games.
