Premier League title may not be in sight of both the Manchester teams, but Champions League qualification is on the line for both the clubs. Regardless of the qualification worries, the Manchester derbies have been one the fiercest rivalries in the Premier League. This match between them is bound to be a high energy and a high octane match. There will lot of cards taken out of the pocket of the referee, that’s for sure.
In the last decade, Manchester City has emerged to be a force to reckon with in the European football. Manchester city has had the better of their city rivals, over the course of past few games. However, this season they have not been as consistent as they used to be. The city would be confident to win this game as they have the home advantage, but one can never rule out the contention of the ‘The Special one’. Here are five reasons that prove Manchester United have an edge over Manchester City:-
1. Jose has got most of his players
Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola both have joined their new club United and city respectively. However, Jose has been more efficient in bringing out the best of his players. Everyone can criticize Jose for his methods, but these methods always give results. Jose was criticized for Luke Shaw’s situation, but look how the player turned out to be, that’s why he is called ‘The Special One’. On the contrary, Pep has tried to make his players play the different style of football, which looks beautiful when clicks. He should be appreciated for his efforts, but it is a result oriented game and his results, so far, have not been satisfying.
2. Manchester United’s form
Manchester United has been criticized a lot for drawing their games and losing points. However, they might not be winning as many games, but they are not losing them as well. They are currently on a streak of 23 unbeaten games in the Premier League. City, on the other hand, has struggled to bring consistency to their game and have lost games, they should have won easily. So, it won’t be easy for City to beat United.
3. De Gea vs. Bravo
De Gea has shown his class for several seasons in a row now. He is regarded as one the best keepers currently gracing the game. De Gea always has come to the rescue of United whenever they needed. Former Barcelona player, Claudio Bravo, has shown a dip in his form in the current season. He has had buttery fingers in quite a few matches and has cost City games. So, De Gea is by far, be the better keeper in the contest, which will strengthen United’s cause to win.
4. Fellaini’s form
Fellaini has been used in several positions by United and was certainly short of, what one would call a good form. Jose has been able to make good use of the Belgian mid-fielder and he the tall man is thriving again. He was never a bad player, just was not used properly. He has become an integral part of the squad and United would not change him with anyone at his current form. This is a sign of danger to Pep’s team.
5. The in-form Rashford
Zlatan was badly injured in United’s Europa League match, adding to their long list of injured players. Marcus Rashford had a good start to his campaign last season, scoring in the first couple of matches as the United’s first team player. He has been pivotal this season, showing great speed and agility. With Zlatan out, he will take his responsibilities. Rashford has looked best when he plays the central striker role. He is someone, who would come as a great danger to City and they would like to keep their eyes on him.
