According to reports, Barcelona has decided to sell players due to their underperformance. Barcelona made an astonishing come back against PSG in the round of 16, only to get defeated in the quarter-finals by the Old Lady. This makes it 2 consecutive times that Barca has not reached the semi-final of the Champions League. Given their exploits in the European competition, this kind of performance is not anywhere near to their standards. So, management has decided to axe these players from the club:-
The 23-year old striker was signed by the Catalonians in the summer. There were doubts over his abilities and whether he would be able to make his mark in the club. These questions were answered this season, not in a way he would have thought. In the limited chances he got, he did not do anything remarkable or worth watching. This is not the kind of player, Barca generally signs. Barcelona’s style of play is different, which fits only few strikers around the world. Hence, this was one of their most bizarre signings. Barcelona would be looking to sell the player in the upcoming transfer window. The striker would attract relatively good interest from clubs all around. The price quoted by Barcelona for Paco is 30m Euros, giving the Catalonians a good profit on the money they invested on the striker.
The former Atletico player was signed by the Catalonians in the summer of 2015. Barcelona was going through a transfer ban in that period, so they could not register Turan and put him in the squad. It was only in the January, that the transfer ban lifted and he was allowed to play for the club. However, the mid-fielder could not reciprocate his Atletico form for the Catalonians. In 2 years at the club, he has just made 36 appearances for the club. This was another eyebrow raising transfer by Barcelona. The La Liga defending champions would be looking to get rid of the player in the summer transfer window, with the age of the player in early 30’s. Arsenal has shown strong interest in signing the mid-fielder from the Catalonians.
The Spanish International was bought Barcelona in the last transfer window as a replacement for Dani Alves. However, they haven’t used the right-back much and have preferred Sergi Roberto over him. Vidal does not look like a long term replacement for Dani Alves. So, the Catalonians would be going in the summer transfer window in search of a right back. Given the situation of Vidal, it would be best for him to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
Apparently, Messi isn’t too happy with the Portuguese international. Things have gone south for the midfielder, after winning the Euros with Portugal. However, Luis Enrique has come out in support of Gomes time and time again and has rated him very highly. He has often been the scapegoat for rare humiliating losses of Barcelona. The only man in his support, Luis Enrique, would be leaving the club in the summer. So, the player would be looking for a new club in the summer.
The 33-year old had an absolute disaster in the first half against Juventus. He was looking out of sorts, which cost Barcelona the game against Juventus. The Liverpool legend Steven Gerard said,
“Mathieu got took off at half-time. He had an absolute nightmare first 45 minutes, we’re wondering how he’s wearing the Barcelona shirt. He’s miles off it”
The player isn’t fit to play as a centre back or as a left back, in a team that is one of the best in the world. With the age not being on his side, it is only logical that the player is sold in the summer transfer window.
