Nitish Rana is an impressive young talent who hails from the capital Delhi. He was born on 27 December 1993 and is currently 23 years old. He is a left-handed batsman and bowls part-time right arm off-spin. He represents Delhi in the domestic cricket.
Nitish Rana, a name which has been raising eyebrows in the domestic circuit for a couple of years now has finally made his mark on the big stage. He was selected for the Delhi Ranji trophy squad in the 2012-13 season but didn’t get to play any game. It was only in the 2015-16 season that he got to make his debut. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and ended up highest run-getter for his domestic team Delhi. He scored a staggering 557 runs at an average of 50.63.
He also made his debut for the domestic side Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the same season. He continued his rich form by being the top-scorer in the whole tournament scoring 299 runs with 21 sixes. He played a blinder of an innings of 97 off 40 balls when his team was struggling at 40 for 4 against Andhra. Another of his dazzling knock came against Baroda where he scored 53 off 29 balls when his team had lost first three wickets very cheaply. Against Jharkhand, he rescued his team again by scoring an unbeaten 60 off 44 balls after Delhi was 3 down for 14 and led his team to victory. He single-handedly made Delhi to reach the semi-finals of the tournament in the tough time Delhi were having off the field due to many controversies.
His impressive performance in the domestic circuit drew eyes of the Mumbai Indians scouts. He was bought by Mumbai Indians in the season 2015-16 at the base price of 10 lakhs. Although he didn’t get to play any matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2015, he was retained by them before the 2016 auctions. In IPL 2016, he played only 4 matches and scored 104 runs. He played some good shots in his short presence at the crease and gained the confidence of the captain and the coach. As a result of which he now a regular member of the squad and has cemented his place with some clinical innings in this year of IPL. He is currently the leading run scorer in this edition of the IPL and holds the orange cap. He has scored 193 runs at an impressive average of just above 38. His highest score of 53 came in the last match against Gujarat Lions.
He has now scored 2 fifties in the tournament, the first one coming against KKR and the second one against Gujarat Lions. He has also shown his big hitting prowess by scoring at a healthy strike rate of 133.10.
