Who doesn't like flying in the air with nothing but a propelling backpack, a Jetpack. It is the thing no one ever regret to try. But due to the numerous design limitations and potential challenges, Jetpacks are still a fantasy. Even though many tried and failed in building one since 1970s, a working Jetpack is not impossible.
This can be confirmed if one witness the recent creation of a startup Jetpack Aviation which is JB 10. If it is hard to believe yet, check the video of a person flying JB 10 on YouTube.
Who is Jetpack Aviation?
Founded by David Mayman, it is startup that is now taking the first step in Jet pack technology this decade. With some fair achievements in the past and the new Jet pack, it is in the spotlight today.
David Mayman says that, "JetPack Aviation is the first company to design and manufacture a true jetpack for personal flight. With this technological breakthrough, JetPack Aviation has created an entirely new aviation market for individuals, corporations, and military customers. Our jetpack will open a vast range of new and exciting applications including rapid organ transportation, high-rise fire escape, and rescue missions behind enemy lines."
It is being crowdfunded by means of Start Engine and currently raised about $29k with a goal of $1 million. The company is offering perks based on the investment and they are as follows
- $10,000+ Visit to the JPA HQ and dinner with cofounders David & Nelson
- $20,000+ Tethered flight near Los Angeles
- $50,000+ Tethered flight + 25% discount on a Jetpack purchase
Objectives of Jetpack Aviation
- Bring the JB 10 to the markets internationally
- Make it a first preference for Emergency services such as Rescue operations, Firefighting etc,.
- Offer easy commuting experience
- For recreation purposes like racing
- For Military and defense purpose
What's New About the JB 10 Jetpack?
JB 10 is the next in line after the JB 9 model which brought Jetpack Aviation on the map. JB 10 now became the first Jetpack that was tested by a civilian, Mischa Pollock who is a video blogger from LA. This was done with almost no prior training a typical prototype jetpack needs.
This demands a peek into the JB 10 and what makes it special.
The components of JB 10 are:
1. Backpack & Fuel tank
The backbone of the jetpack is the Backpack with five point harness and quick release buckles. On the backpack lies the Fuel tank and buoyancy system to avoid drowning if hit the water
2. Jet Engine
Dual thrusters with synchronization technology are able to generate 180 pounds thrust and each engine houses a radial compressor and axial turbine system that spin up to 60,000 rpm
While the left hand controls Yaw and Spin, Right one controls Thrust and Throttle. Jetpack moves forward when you lean forward and hovers when you lean back. Inbuilt stabilization technology helps in takeoff and landing easily
- Max Altitude – 10,000 feet
Max Speed – 68 miles per hour forward speed
Flight time before Refueling – 10 minutes tops
By the looks of it this Jetpack may live up its dreams and with still a long journey for the company, let us hope we can fly one day and this can be done by hoping the best for the company. And if you are willing to buy one, I have to warn that JB 10 is very pricey of about $250000 which is almost same as an expensive sports car. So, hold on to your fantasy a bit longer.
