One has to be cautious while going on a vacation or holiday trip. Since there is a rise in crime, we need to be extra cautious dealing with people, or going out.
Below are some tips that can be really helpful:
1. Do not post details of your trip on Facebook
While going out, we should not post complete details of our trip on social media pages. Something like:
Going to Europe trip, will be there from 22nd December to 2nd January
Status like these will give anyone idea that your house might be empty, and there are brighter chances that no one is at home. Social life has the ease of posting anything on our walls/posts. People enjoy this. But, if you see it closely, you are giving green signal to negative people.
These negative people can be the guy who delivers newspaper or milk or vegetables or cleaning maids. The list can be endless.
2. Do not leave packages visible in your car
While parking your vehicle, do not leave packages and valuables visible from outside. A closed car has no security at all. One can easily break the window glasses, and pick up the stuff. Nobody will notice or bother.
By keeping stuff visible, it becomes a honeypot for people.
3. Be extra cautious of Delivery guys
Be cautious of people posing as courier guy or delivery guy. Do not just open your door or give personal details on phone for these calls.
If they are calling you by telling you to have XYZ courier. First check, whether you are actually expecting something. Try to extract more information from them. Do not give any personal information like Credit/Debit card details, PAN number etc.
You need to be cautious for people asking for donations from home.
4. Ask your neighbor to keep a watch
While leaving home for few days, have some neighbor or relative to see your house. There is no harm in asking for a watch. Or, you can also opt for timed control lights, or leave a radio/television on so that house looks occupied.
5. Remember some emergency Phone numbers
Always remember the phone number of emergency contacts. In case your mobile gets stolen, you should be able to call some of your emergency contacts that can help you or reach you to provide help.
6. Choose ATM machine inside complex
Try to choose ATM machines that are inside some complex or banks or established business. By doing this, we are providing a layer of security to us. In an open ATM booth, a snatcher can snatch your wallet or money. And, if you are in a secluded place, things are worsening.
7. Remember to pick your Mobile/Tablet/Laptop
Always remember to pick your electronic devices from the plane, or hotel or restaurant or taxi etc. These are some of the common habits of people forgetting their stuff
8. Attention to your mobile or laptop
Never ever leave your mobile device or laptop device unattended. It might take just a fraction of a second to steal it.
