The First Of Their Kind In India

India

India, a developing country, and our beloved motherland has gone through many ups and downs through the ages. Yet, despite these odds, India has maintained her strive to excel in various fields and emerge as one of the brightest minds in the world. Not only is India a country that can boast of the intelligence, but, she is also a nation who can look at her children conquering different spheres of life. Thus, be it scientific inventions and research, art and culture or sports, India has set up a road ahead for the upcoming generations so that they too nurture their talents and make their countrymen proud of themselves.

First Test Tube Baby

Durga Agarwal was born on 3 October 1978. At that time, she was perhaps a child who had been brought into this world by abnormal means as thought by the society. However, little did they know that Dr. Subhas Mukhopadhyay was the genius mind who had successfully performed the in vitro fertilization using some basic apparatus and had brought into the world the second test tube baby and the first of its kind in India.

First Person to Go into Space

Space has always been an enchanting area of study since time immemorial. Indian astronomers have made an immense contribution to the world. And, the first Indian to embark on a journey to space was none other than Rakesh Sharma, the Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force, on 2 April 1984 as a collaborative effort by ISRO and the Soviet Intercosmos Space Programme. His most memorable words from space, “Saare Jahaan Se Acha Hindustan Humara” touches the heart of every Indian even today.

Mihir Sen was one of the best long distance swimmers the world has ever seen. In 1958, he was the first India to conquer the feat of swimming across the English Channel from Dover to Calais. He was also the first man to swim across the oceans of the five continents including the Palk Strait, Dardanelles, Bosphorpous, the straits of Gibralter and the entire length of the Panama Canal. He was mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1969 as the world’s greatest long distance swimmer.

First Person to Conquer The Summit of Mt. Everest without Oxygen

We have heard of many Indians who had conquered the summit of Mt. Everest. However, little do we know that there are some extraordinary people who have achieved the same feat without carrying supplementary oxygen. India has also produced such an extraordinary man called Phu Dorji who was the first Indian to achieve the same 9 May 1984 at the risk of his life.

These ventures taken up by the daring Indians have set a path ahead of us and have given us the courage to try out something new without worrying about failure. Their zeal and achievements truly make every Indian proud. Hence, it is apt to quote “Saare Jahaan Se Acha, Hindustan Humara”.
