This decade of football has been, undoubtedly, dominated by the two beasts, Messi and Ronaldo. The biggest question in the football now is who is the better Ronaldo or Messi? This never-ending debate has been going on since like forever. However, no result is reached at yet. Some believe Ronaldo is the best, while some believe Messi is the best.
Both the players inspire each other to perform better each day and take that extra giant leap. But is it fair to both the greats to tie them to the standards of each other?
Here are 5 reasons why we should not compare them:-
#1 Different types of players:-
Messi’s style of play is different from that of Ronaldo. Messi dribbles the ball past 4-5 defenders like it is walk in the park for him, it can be the most enchanting thing that a football fan can watch. On the other hand, as the age is catching up on the Real Madrid winger, he is transforming himself into an out and out striker. Ronaldo is a complete player and can score any type of goal, whereas Messi is not known to have too much expertise in heading the ball. Messi can be mesmerizing, while Ronaldo is genius and gets the work done. Hence, we should not bind them into the comparisons.
#2 Different position of player:-
Ronaldo came into eyes of the world as a speedy winger for Manchester United. As the player, is getting matured, he does not play that a deeper role now a days and buzzes around the box. However, he has shown his versatility by playing in both the wings and as a striker. Whereas Messi, started his career as a midfielder and he has gradually grown into the role of a striker. However, he is not limited to the role of the striker and can play versatile roles. He sometimes plays as number 10, sometimes as a winger and sometimes goes deep in the midfield to help his team. So, the comparisons between them become irrelevant.
#3 Ronaldo played in the Premier League and Messi didn’t:-
Ronaldo was a vital player in the star studded team in the Manchester United. Premier League is considered to be the most competitive league in the world. The bottom ranked team on their day, can outplay the table toppers in Premier League. This kind of pressure is not there in La Liga, where a win almost certain for the top clubs against the lower ranked teams. Ronaldo has raised eyebrows of football pundits all around the world with his performance in PL. Messi has not played in PL, so we will never know what he could have done.
#4 Both have their own share of records:-
Ronaldo and Messi have been breaking records for fun all these years. They both have their names in most the football records and they are taking it to new heights. Such heights, which were only a distant dream once have been dominating by these two legends with relative ease. If one creates one record, then the other takes no time in overtaking it. This should not be taken as a measure of rivalry. Both the players help each other to achieve something which has never been achieved before by setting goals and inspiring each other.
#5 We should enjoy them while they are still there:-
Football world hasn’t been the since these two came into the scene. They have now become the players that no opposition wants to face. These great heights were never achieved before and will definitely take a lot of time in the future to get to. So, instead of fighting over the fact that who is better, we should embrace the fact that we have been fortunate enough to see them play.
