Manchester United fans have not tasted a league win, since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. It has not been easy for them, which is reflected in their outrage. They have not looked the team they were under Ferguson. They have had problems with their defence and problems with their attack. United attracted criticism from all over the world for playing dull football.
This season was no different for them. They have struggled to make it to the top four. However, there is a change, in the way they were playing football post Ferguson. They are no longer playing dull football, which is a good sign. Mourinho seems to be the manager who can quench their thirst for a league win.
Here are 5 good reasons that prove that Mourinho will win the league with Red Devils:-
#1 Solid defence:-
Mourinho was criticised for signing such expensive players in the starting. However, as the season went on, we have seen improvement in the players, which is evident in the good football they have been playing. Pogba has been good, but not up to his full potential, which he has shown in the recent years. He has shown what he is capable of in quite a few matches. Although, their attacking scenario is not as good as they would have expected, their defence has been up to the task. Eric Bailly has to be the signing of the season. He has given a master-class defensive performance and stood like a wall. Shaw, Blind, Rojo, Smalling, Jones, Valencia, Young all have performed well, whenever they have played. Valencia, in particular, has had a top-notch season. Mourinho has solved the defensive problems of United. As it is often said, “Attack is important to win matches, but defence is important to win titles”.
In spite of inconsistent run in the Premier League, United have shown their strength in the cup matches. Mourinho won the EFL cup and the FA community shield with Manchester United. Their progress in the league has been hampered by the long list of injured players. Jose has not had much choice in the selection of players. The two league winning spells with Chelsea, were preceded by strong run in the cup matches. So, as far as the track record is concerned, Manchester United are well on their way to win the League title.
#3 The emergence of Rashford:-
Rashford has been a revelation for Manchester United. The 19-year old, is one of the trusted members of the Mourinho’s team. This season, he has made appearance in almost all the matches and has impressed one and all. Although, he has been short in scoring goals for the Red Devils, he has shown promise, every time he has stepped onto the field. He has got all the abilities to be a Manchester United legend. With the presence of Zlatan, he has not got enough chance to play in the centre, but Mourinho has given him every chance possible to help him develop into a better player. This would definitely solve their attacking problem.
#4 Champion Mentality:-
Mourinho is not one of those managers, who would wait for things to happen. He is a strong, self-believing manager and instils the same in his players. Over the years, the legendary manager, has built teams who have gone on to rewrite history books. Mourinho is the manager, who can bring back winning days of Manchester United. He has given the glimpse of it by winning the cups. Mourinho has not taken more than two seasons to win the league, at any of his previous clubs. So, it is quite possible that the league win is just around the corner for the Red Devils.
#5 Unbeaten run:-
Although, United have not won the league, they had an amazing unbeaten run in the league. They were inefficient in winning games, but did not lose them either. Mourinho has built the backbone of the team in form of Pogba, Herrera and Bailly. He is still developing the attacking front, but the defence has been rock solid. Legendary Mata has been exceptional but he too had injury problems. One thing is for sure in Jose’s teams is that they won’t be having a fragile defence. Their unbeaten run with the injury prone team is the testament to what they can achieve with their full team. With Mourinho managing the club, silverware does not look far away.
