Google defines satire as the use of humor, irony, and exaggeration to expose some vices in the context of contemporary politics or other topical issues.
Not since Chandler Bing’s sarcasm have we Indians seen much on this front but the dawn of this century has brought in a whole host of content based on satire.
Here are 5 reasons we believe News satire works:
1. It hits the nail, every single time
Whether you love politics or hate it, you are bound to have some opinion and these parodies will only make your beliefs stronger. It may usually leave you feeling super awed and with the empty feeling of – that’s exactly my point.
2. It makes you think
While most spoofs are direct digs at politicos or situations, they make you realize the gravity of the situation. It leaves you thinking about different view points and may even have you questioning the very fiber of your being.
At the end of the day, anything that gives you a good laugh is worth sharing and spoof sites and parodies aim to help you relax better. If you can’t silence them, join them, seems to be the saying of the day.
4. Forum as a means of conversation
The comments section on these sites are more entertaining than the spoof itself. There are comment wars on many platforms but there’s also a chance that like-minded people come together and form strong connections. It’s liberating to know that people can be united despite the several demographic parameters – in the quest for something more satisfying than religion or state.
5. Variety is the spice of life
One gets to consume content of differing kinds – articles, images, videos or GIFs and the variety is what makes life interesting.
There are several times when these sites get into trouble for the topics they post on and they are usually controversies’ favorite kids. But their continued stance on empowering the Indian through satire and comedy only bolsters our support to them. If we were to zero in on some of India’s top-notch satirical content, then here are some of the epic shizz that will make you swoon!
